Tire Maintenance Tips

In terms of vehicle safety, the importance of having dependable tires cannot be overstated. While that statement may seem obvious, many drivers are guilty of neglecting their tires and not performing regular tire maintenance performed.

Neglecting your tires can lead to long-term damage for several of your vehicles components, including the suspension and axel among others. Some tips on how to keep your tires in good shape can be found below:

Proper Inflation.
Having too much air in your tires can cause them to bulge which will lead to the sides wearing out quickly. Conversely, not having enough air in your tires results in sagging which leads to disintegration. In order to avoid both of these scenarios and get the most mileage possible out of your tires, you should keep them at the factory-recommended PSI levels.

Alignment.
If your wheels aren’t properly aligned, your vehicle’s suspension can become warped and your tires’ lifespan can be drastically reduced. The American Automobile Association (AAA) recommends that you have a wheel alignment performed at least once per 12,000 miles. You should get this done sooner if you start to feel your vehicle’s steering system veering to one side or another.

Balancing/Rotating.
No matter what wheel-drive your vehicle might be, its front and rear tires will perform different functions and produce different rates of wear. Consistently rotating your tires is imperative to their health – AAA recommends you get this done every 6,000 miles or so.
